Welcome to Kindergarten Orientation for 2008/2009
|
Near North District elementary schools are currently accepting Junior and Senior Kindergarten registrations for the 2008-2009 school year. During May and June each school will host Welcome to Kindergarten Orientation sessions for parents and their children who are preparing to enter kindergarten for the first time in September 2008. Welcome to Kindergarten™ (WTK), is one of a number of program initiatives developed by The Learning Partnership, (TLP). TLP is a national not-for-profit organization, dedicated to bringing together business, education, government, labour, policy makers and the community to develop partnerships that strengthen public education in Canada. The Welcome to Kindergarten program was developed to provide pre-school children (and their families) with the resources and experiences to begin their formal education with a foundation in early learning nurtured in their home environment.
During the WTK sessions, teachers along with community partners such as local libraries, Early Years Centre, and child care providers, will share activities that parents can do at home with their child. Each child will receive a Welcome to Kindergarten activity bag full of supplies. Families will also receive information about resources and ideas to help them prepare for their child’s first learning experience in school.
